‘Armonico Hewa’ continues the rapturous and frenetic celebration of nature that coursed through the veins of OOIOO’s 2006 album ‘Taiga’. Where as ‘Taiga’ meant ‘forest’ in Russian and ‘big river’ in Japanese, ‘Armonico Hewa’ is a combination of words (‘armonico’ is Spanish and ‘hewa’ is Swahili) that is defined by the band as “air in a armonious state”. Like the cross-cultural title, ‘Armonico Hewa’ is a mind- melting combination of stylistic reference points that can only be described as some kind of tribal psychedelia that is oddly spiritual and alarmingly urgent. After his recent release on Clone A Made Up Sound (aka 2562) presents his new platform for his own beat freakery. It is no news anymore that Dave Huismans is one talented guy! His debut 2562 album was one of last years highlights.. and his new album set for early winter 09 will be not create a smaller buzz! In the meanwhile mr Huismans also managed to squeeze out some killer tracks out of his machines for his A Made Up Sound project! These 2 tracks will get a limited run on his newly started label. ‘Rework’ started out as a sneaky bonus remix but ended up as a killer techno track in its own right, with stomping 4/4 beats, an irresistibly simple 3 note chord melody and gut-wrenching sub bass. Contrasting is ‘Closer’ on the flip, where a yearning vocal stab spirals around a warm synth line that just keeps on building over signature punchy broken beats and a big b-line, all the way until its climaxing breakdown. These tracks cross the gap between techno and dubstep. Highly recommended!

Then get out from under your stone and check it out! With releases on his own Kapsize imprint earlier this year - tracks like 'Do It' and 'Purple City' (w/ Ginz), Joker has sent shock waves from the underground that has rippled from Skream or Kode 9's record box to the likes of Scratch Perverts, Zane Lowe - to major label record companies even, hounding for Joker remixes... Breakage aka James Boyle is never been one to be pigeonholed. Moving effortlessly through styles from drum and bass to dubstep, Breakage has proved himself to be one of the most versatile operators in either scene to date. A prodigious talent, he already has a number of classic releases under his belt but continues to develop his sound. 12": 20th Century Steel Band - Heaven & Hell Sampler € 8.95

The 20th Century Steel Band has its humble beginnings as a working band on the Baileys Circuit, however 1975 saw the band record and release their debut album ´Warm Heart, Cold Steel´. This would prove to be a landmark album, featuring the track ´Heaven & Hell is on Earth´ which would go on to be an infamous addition to the world of sampling, long after the group disbanded following the dissolution of their record label, United Artists. ´Heaven & Hell is on Earth´ has been a firm favourite since its release as a sample in 1986. The ´Stop the Violence´ movement were the first, but by no means last to sample for the track ´Self Destruction´ of which all proceeds went to the National Urban League. Having become a regular on the sampling circuit, the track has been used by artists such as Salt-N-Pepa, Xzibit, Anonymous (ft Eminem), the Black Eyed Peas on their debut album ´Behind the Front´, The Jungle Brothers and LL Cool J (Featuring in the film ´Take the Lead´, starring Antonio Banderas). Perhaps the most famous of all tracks to sample ´Heaven & Hell is on Earth´ is ´Jenny from the Block´ by Jennifer Lopez (This is me …Then). Whilst ´Heaven & Hell is on Earth´ has become the legacy of the 20th Century Steel Band, the band marked their success in other ways, such as winning New Faces in 1986. Although sampling of 20th Century Steel Band was widespread, it was also done without the band´s knowledge, which led to band member Michael Olivier successfully suing for unpaid royalties, which finally saw him and the band credited with the masterpiece. As a result, Michael, credited with composing several of the bands most successful tracks including ´Heaven and Hell is on Earth´ went on to receive recognition for his contribution to music with awards from the British Music Industry (BMI) and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). 12": Robbie M & Terry Patton - Tri-Fire Vol.1 € 13.50

Time for another lo-fi rider. 5 unreleased cassette demos from the founding members of Midnight Express, Robbie M and Terry Patton. This volume includes the original demo groove for DANGER ZONE, along with 4 more raw un-cut gems transferred direct to vinyl from the tapes. PPU did their best to restore the sound on these, but they were buried under 30 years of tape fuzz. This is the rawest synth funk preservation yet.. and only on PPU records.

LP: Upstroke - Mad Dog's Hustle Soundtrack € 17.95

In mid 2009 Secret Stash released a collection of Porno soundtrack material from the Fantasy Productions vault. After digging deeper they discovered hours of incredible unreleased music. The first thing to stand out was this soundtrack to a 1974 blaxploitation film entitled “Mad Dog’s Hustle.” The film was only shown for less than 3 weeks in 6 theaters nationwide before disappearing into a baron wasteland of low-budget, poorly marketed cinema. Within a year Fantasy forfeited the rights to the film in a legal dispute with members of the cast and crew. Producer Bullion, from France, has "re-imagined" Pet Sounds in the style of Dilla. It is NOT a mash-up. He has taken snippets and samples from Pet Sounds and sampled them in the style J Dilla would have/may have used to produce a truly amazing, and hypnotic, interpretation of Brian Wilson's Opus. At first listen we were taken aback on how deftly the Frenchman's sourced Beach Boys samples were being blended, much in the same way Wilson layered the vocals on the original to make a cohesive entity. At times it sounds like the always summery El Guincho mixed with some stuff off of Animal Collective's Sung Tongs . Nonetheless well well worth the effort, a must have for fans of DangerMouse lovers of the Grey Album.

For the LP version of Echo Party we've come up with an intriguing concept: Edan is personally hand designing and assembling each and every cover. Each copy will be unique and one of a kind! We approached Edan with a unique opportunity, full access to Traffic Entertainment Groups extensive back catalog to mix and rework in any way he could imagine. We figured this would be a fairly quick and painless project that would be fun for Edan and also offer him some help in getting his name back out into the market while shedding some light on lesser known but full on dope titles buried deep in our back catalog. Two years and a new label later, Five Day Weekend and Edan have finally finished the project. What began as a simple mix, has grown into a colorful full on production album that features Edan as the musician displaying his skills on live instruments including synthesizers, guitar, percussion, echoplex even glockenspiel and kazoo. Echo Party has Edans personality intermixed with a wealth of amazing material. Elements are pulled from original multi tracks and these isolated accapellas and drum breaks have not been heard by any ears except the engineers and original artists that were in on the original sessions. Other portions are more identifiable though obscured by the filter of Edans ever improving studio techniques. Only an artist like Edan with his borderline obsessive commitment to detail could have brought such a project to life. Echo Party promises to be one of 2009s most celebrated releases.

Tartelet Records presents their eighth 12inch - ‘The Work Out 1&2′ Mountain Ride / Restless Swing This is the first split-12inch on Tartelet, and marks an important point in the peacemaking process between Denmark and Northern Germany, since the war in 1864. Wareika, from Hamburg on the A side, are one of Germany’s most promising acts and Tomas Barfod & Fredski, from Copenhagen on the B side are first of all founders of Tartelet Records, secondly known from party- techno releases on Get Physical and Tartelet itself. This is the 3rd Tartelet Galaxy Edition release, which means that it embraces more experimental and deep sounds than the non-Galaxy output from Tartelet. Work Out 1# - Mountain Ride As the other german Tartelet artist Brand Brauer Frick, Wareika are known for their very organic approach to making deep techno and electronica. They have been releasing on some of Germanys strongest house and techno labels like Connaisseur, MotivBank and Liebe/Detail. Wareika has a warm, almost free jazz-like sound with just as clear references to Sun Ra and Weather Report as Kraftwerk. Mountain Ride is best described as an epic, dancy, live country mixup with a whole bunch of clesmer sounds. The whole track is played live by the three Wareikans; Florian does the vocals and plays the bass, Henrik is on strings and Jakob works the electronic elements live into the track as they play. Work Out 2# - Restless Swing Tomas and Frederik revealed their passion for avantgarde, world and jazz on their two Get Physical release during the summer. On Restless Swing they take it even futher, with a live palette of piano drums and saxophones. Expect ‘house-chops’ meets ‘band jam session’.
